Cardella’s divisive rhetoric not needed
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I e-mailed Johnson County supervisor candidate Lori Cardella, asking if that was really her I'd seen, second woman from the right, in a red plaid miniskirt, in a video on YouTube. She confirmed that it was.
In the video, posted Nov. 5 by the conservative Coralville Courier, five women, apparently dressed as school girls, chant a singsong poem about the Iowa City Council's proposed franchise fee on utilities. These “school girls” accuse the council of “trying to sneak (the fee) by you,” and refer to it as a “fascist issue.”
I could tolerate a county supervisor who moonlights as an amateur satirist, but I don't want one whose idea of creative fun is leveling accusations of fascism. Competence and experience, not divisive rhetoric, is what we need.
My vote Tuesday in the special election for supervisor goes to Janelle Rettig.
