Cap-and-trade reform is economic nightmare
The Gazette Opinion Staff

In his July 23 letter, the president of the Iowa Farmers Union said support the carbon emission bill to reduce non-farm gas emissions. Now isn't that nice. The farmers want to make “green house gas” but woe be to the other non-farm guy who produces any.
He says we all know about “increased production cost” but there are measures which will mitigate some of these costs. What measures he doesn't say. Do our farmers actually want to have higher production costs with no assurance that these costs will be offset? Apparently the Farmers Union does.
The president alluded to the EPA and that without the cap-and-trade law, it is poised to act. Act to do what? Won't it be the EPA who enforces any cap-and-trade debacle in any case? So what does the farmer gain? If cap and trade is not good for the farmer, then it is not good for anyone.
Cap and trade and health care reform are both nightmares for the economy and nirvana for the elitists in government who personally are not affected by either.
