Candidates hypocritic when it comes to values
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I hear candidates talk about their values and I have to wonder where they learned them. What bothers me is the candidates who state their values but do not stand by them.
I learned my values from family, especially from my Aunt Lola who passed away last year from cancer and COPD. She taught me the value of hard work, love and faith. She especially showed that in her marriage and in ensuring that my brother and I had a safe home. She did all of these things and I never saw her go to church.
Although I am a Wiccan, I grew up in a Christian household and the biggest lesson I learned in Sunday school was “Love thy neighbor.” I live by the Wiccan Rede “What ye will do will come back on ye threefold.”
So when I see a candidate who is teaching intolerance about someone because they are homosexual or have a different belief, I wonder if they are living by their values. Others should learn the lessons my aunt taught.
