Cameras, taxes continue to increase
Jan. 25, 2011 11:16 pm
Years ago, I remember seeing a science fiction story on TV where cameras were everywhere, monitoring our every public move. I scoffed at such an outlandish conception. “Never happen,” I thought. This is a free country!
Wrong! Now cameras are everywhere, in stores, in parks, athletic fields and even on the highways watching our every move. But not necessarily for safety. It is just one more money-grabbing scheme to rid taxpayers of their earnings. We pay taxes for legal protection, so why must we pay still more to travel our highways?
When an extra penny was added to our city taxes, I knew it would not end when we were told it would. Someone always finds a new, legal way for us to spend it when we reach adulthood.
