Cameras slow speeding, bring in funding

Does anyone else find the stories equating speed cameras with “sin taxes” amusing? I've got a “lead foot,” and I've been photographed and ticketed. Once. Now I slow down where I know the cameras are, and so do a lot of other people. The overpass, in particular, seems much safer.
What's really ironic is the “tax angle” argument is coming from the same folks who usually howl about law and order!
We've finally found a way to keep speed down in problem areas without increasing personnel, which, by the way, brings in funding for much-needed law enforcement. Slow down and avoid the “tax.” It's definitely optional.
