Calls about road repair are dismissed

To the editor:
Supervisors Brent Oleson and Ben Rogers being the only ones to vote against a 2-percent increase in the Linn County Supervisors' increase in wages is commendable. Exceeding $100,000 per year seems like rubbing salt in rural residents' wounds. I speak of their decision to also raise rural residents' taxes $12 per $100,000 evaluation to support rural road operations.
I agree our roads are in dire need, but also know that my calls to them about doing road repair, at least on our shoulders disappearing into ditches, have been dismissed with 'you are not in our budget” for more than five years now. If we are not in their budget than I do not think we should be taxed a higher yearly amount either.
As one of many retirees living on rural roads, we live on fixed incomes of Social Security. What does raise for us are local utilities, gas, food, medications and other living needs. So, 'you are not in our budget” while increasing our tax base and their wages seems obscene to say the least.
