C.R. street-closing plan needs test-run

Last weekend dining with friends, we discussed a number of local topics, one of which was the closing of Second Avenue to allow for the Physicians' Clinic of Iowa (medical mall) project.
One comment seemed like an appropriate recommendation for PCI and our city leadership to consider: Why not close down Second Avenue for a period of time to determine the issues that may exist before making a long-term decision?
Temporarily closing the street would allow those affected to determine the amount of impact and provide opportunities for added feedback based on real-time issues.
This idea led to further discussion about alternatives to closing Second Avenue, such as walkways over the street or underground tunnels.
Temporarily closing Second Avenue would be a logical step to take before coming to a conclusion. Maybe too logical.
