C.R. should use local colleges as a resource

In reading the Oct. 24 Gazette article regarding the partnerships with the University of Iowa and the smaller communities, I got to thinking as to why the city of Cedar Rapids is not using this assistance for our flood recovery. We should petition our mayor and council to use our local college and universities for advice and assistance.
Not only would this cost a lot less than the
infamous flood consultants, it would give younger people an interest in our city and an outlet for the city to recognize and develop possible future leaders. With the economic times as they are, we need to think outside of the box in city governance, and this is one of many
ideas our city needs to look at.
