C.R.’s slogan still good as changes come to city

I urge the City Council as well as the Cedar Rapids Visitors and Convention Bureau to take caution if considering retiring the city slogan, The City of Five Seasons.
It's been a workhorse of a slogan for four decades, longer I would imagine than many of the naysayers have been alive. I understand the comments about having to explain it to inquiring folks. To this I would say, “Great! Perfect! That's what you want.” Take 10 seconds of your time and do a little “city selling.”
Mayor Ron Corbett was spot on when he said, “It certainly gives us a nice segue into talking about the benefits of living in Cedar Rapids and having a business in Cedar Rapids.”
It has served the city well - as has the Tree of Five Seasons, about which many dreadfully impolite comments also have been made. It's a wonderful symbol and it would be foolish if taken down.
I feel the convention center and new hotel are making a huge mistake if they don't take advantage of an established brand and identifying themselves with “The City of Five Seasons.” I hope our city officials show more foresight.
