Cedar Rapids is lucky to have many so many rescues and shelters that help animals in our area. As one of the newest, Uno's Promise is so proud to call this city home. But when it comes to protecting animals, Cedar Rapids also has a dark side - our city currently supports the puppy mill industry by being home to a store that sells puppy mill dogs.
Last month, the city announced it is considering an ordinance that would prohibit pet stores from selling puppies from puppy mills. Uno's Promise is in favor of that effort 100 percent.
As one of the largest cities in Iowa - and home to so many animal-related organizations - Cedar Rapids has an obligation to stand up and say it does not support puppy mills and will not have the industry operating in the city.
Uno's Promise joins the many other organizations and individuals standing up in support of the effort to ban puppy mill sales. We hope every council member and our mayor do the same.
