C.R. lucky to have had Piersol as band director

A friend just sent me the notice of Frank Piersol's death. I had the privilege of membership in his bands at Iowa State University from 1958 to 1962. If I'd known he was directing the municipal band in Cedar Rapids, I would have thought about moving to town and trying for a job as a high-school chemistry teacher. But I'll bet that dozens of similarly magnetized former music majors would have trounced me.
What luck for the city to have had that nationally famous man as its band director for 22 years! If you haven't already renamed the bandstand, consider it now.
