C.R. 'green' parking rule is discrimination

I couldn't believe the Nov. 23 Gazette headline, “Efficient cars will get prime parking.” Don't we all in the Cedar Rapids/Linn County area pay our fair share of taxes? Why then should an individual be discriminated against because he is driving a car that doesn't fit a certain criteria? Maybe that person can't afford to upgrade. Maybe that person is comfortable with the car he has.
Why should someone in the Public Works Department (Sandy Pumphrey) be telling us we can do this, that or the other thing because he/she thinks it is the right thing? Preferential treatment should not apply.
City Council member Tom Podzimek is for this nutty idea. He should be working hard on some city problems that need attention and not wasting time on this type of trivia.
