C.R. council wasting money on new buildings
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jan. 22, 2011 8:17 am
Why are Cedar Rapids City Council members spending money they don't have? Taxpayers are against more sales tax and increased property tax, especially in this economy. Money hasn't been going where it's supposed to. It never will.
Who needs these highfalutin buildings? We aren't a Chicago or a New York metropolitan city. We are just a Midwestern town. We're simple people. We don't need all this fancy stuff.
The crows will have fun splattering the windows on the new library. How about when a good hailstorm comes? They'll hire a poor sucker to keep the windows cleaned daily. The library is good enough where it's at. At least there are shops around to get some shopping done. While downtown, there is nothing.
This goes for those sports arenas and the new fire station. Just like the library, what's wrong with the old fire station? All they had to do was move the trucks. Nothing was hurt.
The city doesn't have the money; don't spend it.
