There has never been a more important time to elect school board members who are truly invested in public education and understand the needs of its educators and students. That’s why I’m supporting Kaitlin Byers for the Cedar Rapids school board in District 4.
I’ve known Kaitlin for most of her life. She grew up in Cedar Rapids and is the product of the Cedar Rapids public education system.
As a former elementary school teacher, she understands the vital role that school boards play in the educational programs of our community. As a former nonprofit fundraiser and current entrepreneurial adviser, she understands the need for affordable and accessible education for our children.
Kaitlin also understands it takes a clear, kind and collaborative style to work with individuals with different viewpoints. On the school board, those qualities would help her pursue her priorities — which include equitable learning environments, solving staff shortages, supporting educators and school safety. Her experiences and connections would help engage more community partners in our schools.
Last, but not least, Kaitlin is the mother of two small children. In that sense, she is equipped to understand the needs of other young families in the community.
I believe Kaitlin Byers would be a valuable addition to the Cedar Rapids school board and bring a fresh perspective to important future conversations. I hope you’ll join me.
