Bush is president who failed to keep us safe

In his Jan. 25 letter, Wayne Lovetinsky said that the nearly disastrous attempt to blow up an airplane over Detroit with 290 people aboard shows that President Barack Obama has no clue about what to do about homeland security. No matter who is president, these attempts will occur. Our president is not responsible for operations at the Amsterdam airport where the suspect boarded.
The key words in Lovetinsky's sentence are “attempt” and “nearly.” Thankfully, the attack failed. Unfortunately, we can't use either word to describe 9/11. It was under Republicans that 19 individuals boarded four different aircraft in American airports, killing roughly 3,000. Under Obama/Biden, we have had one individual boarding one airplane in Amsterdam, killing precisely nobody. Under Bush there was also the shoe bomber and anthrax attacks, and we learned that Bush was warned a month before 9/11 that terrorists were planning to use aircraft as weapons. So, which president failed to keep us safe?
