Burris and Glass would bring new perspectives in Iowa City

Serving in public office is an onerous task that requires making personal sacrifices and taking blistering criticism for the greater good of the community. Thankfully, there are a number of good candidates this year that have risen to the challenge. I am pleased to see newcomer, Krista Burrus, running for a seat on the school board. As an education data scientist, she would bring a fresh, data-driven perspective free of preexisting biases and political allegiances. She is friendly and approachable and has a keen interest in how education affects our students as they graduate and enter the work force. I’ve enjoyed getting to know her and I think she’d be an excellent addition to Ruthina Malone and the rest of the board team.
In the Iowa City Council race, I am excited to see Jason Glass throw his hat in the ring. Jason is a friend from the Hawkeye Marching Band and already serves his community on the Human Rights Commission, the National Guard, the community theater, and by teaching human resources at the university. I enjoy hearing Jason’s perspective on complicated issues as he takes a meticulous and analytical approach to problem solving. I always learn something new from him and his voice will be a great addition to the council with the departure of council member Susan Mims.
Support Krista Burrus for School Board and Jason Glass for Iowa City Council. Our community needs their fresh perspectives.
