Building pipelines not ideal solution

To the editor:
Regarding Erin Murphy's June 9 article, 'Iowa board says Dakota Access pipeline ruling coming this winter”:
Murphy summarizes the complaints against the pipeline as ' … safety concerns over potential leaks and decry the use of eminent domain … ” I fear that the primary problem of this pipeline is being lost because of these other legitimate complaints.
The most basic and most important argument against this pipeline is that it is building new infrastructure for the oil industry when we should be planning to move away from fossil fuels. Climate change because of the carbon dioxide we have put into our atmosphere is having a serious negative impact on weather in the form of more intense storms and longer droughts. The long term impact such as the seas rising, species extinction and more extreme weather, demand that we plan to move away from fossil fuels and toward sustainable energy production.
We have a moral obligation to future generations to do whatever we can to fight against this climate fiasco. Building more pipelines is not a responsible action and climate change should be the No. 1 consideration for the Iowa Utilities Board.
