This is not a traditional Letter to the Editor for a political candidate.
Rather, I’d like to offer you an observation and recommendation for consideration related to the Linn County Supervisor race for District 3. I can promise you, as a sitting Senator in Linn County, I will not tell you how to vote, but I will describe some important points I think you should consider if you have not already made up your mind. So, please, read on.
First, District 3, is the only Republican seat on the Linn County Board of Supervisors. A multiparty system (board) is good thing. It not only encourages a larger, and thereby more diverse pool of candidates to run, it also enhances the representation of the people.
Second, I know Brandy Zumbach Meisheid. I met her several years ago when I was running for the Iowa House for rural Linn County and she was running her dad’s campaign for Linn County Supervisor, the seat she is now seeking. I could tell then how bright, capable and dedicated she was.
If you have had the opportunity to speak with Brandy at an event or while she’s door knocking, which is quite likely, you already know how motivated she is about serving Linn County. A quality absolutely necessary to be successful in public service, and one of the building blocks of knowledge and commitment. I have worked with her a lot since then, and believe she has everything she needs to lead, all that’s left now is the opportunity.
