Brain injury prevalence rises in Iowa

This spring the Iowa Dept. of Health and Human Services released updated figures on brain injury in Iowa showing that more than 600,000 Iowans have experienced a brain injury. This figure surpasses the combined populations of Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Sioux City, and Council Bluffs.
Much slower to heal than other injuries, a brain injury is often a chronic condition requiring support to keep a job, and to navigate physical, cognitive, financial and other invisible challenges … challenges inconceivable to most of us.
The Brain Injury Alliance of Iowa provides a statewide, fee-free NeuroResource Facilitation program for Iowans with brain injury and their families. Our certified brain injury specialists aid individuals in navigating recovery, adapting, and accommodating changes. They help access to necessary services and support for living well with brain injury.
Remember, brain injury is the last thing on your mind, until it becomes the only thing.
