BP, not U.S., must pay for Gulf oil spill costs
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jun. 27, 2010 12:59 am
Monte Whitlock (June 22 letter) shows a severely limited knowledge of the oil-spill disaster if he thinks Obama's response was poor. Unlike Katrina - which was an all-natural, unavoidable and unforeseeable disaster (barring the last few days before it hit) that was supposed to be dealt with by the federal government but was not - BP is 100 percent responsible for this incident.
The government (which simply kowtowed to those who think like Whitlock) had nothing to do with it. Nor should it put one penny of the public's money or one minute of time into the cleanup, which clearly lies at BP's corporate feet.
