Boy Scout oath offers a good set of rules

The Boy Scouts have been in the news recently. Scouts learn to become good citizens by taking part in a broad program of work and play. Their motto is “Be Prepared.” They learn many things such as wood craft, camping, swimming, outdoor cooking and First Aid.

The scout oath: “On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country, and to obey the Scout Law. To help other people at all times. To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.”

The Scout Law states that a scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, clean and reverent.

If you are a Christian, to honor God you need to live by the Ten Commandments and other teachings in the Bible. To honor your country, you need to obey its laws and be a model citizen and help others having problems.

I cannot think of a better set of rules for a young man to follow.
