Bottle bill has long-term benefits

I support the modernized bottle bill that is before the Iowa Senate. It is important to minimize plastic waste winding up in landfills in addition to uncontrolled disposal. Plastic is leaching into waterways and is associated with adverse health effects.

As a medical student, I have been informed that the feminization of males because of hormone analogues found in plastics is already a growing concern.

A simple bill such as monetary gain from recycling can have a lasting impact on future generations. It is rare that a simple piece of legislation can have comparable profound long-term benefits. Please do not overlook the diverse benefits to this bill and join me in asking our state legislators o vote yes to a healthier Iowa and a cleaner environment.
