Vote for Kingsley Botchway for Iowa City Council. Botchway is an excellent mix of the new and old. First, the new. Botchway will bring fresh perspectives given his unique education, training and experience.
As a University of Iowa College of Law graduate, he would come to the council already knowing how Iowa City is both empowered and constrained by law.
Botchway is black and, thus, will bring to the council's deliberations much-needed diversity in perspective and experience.
Lastly, he's served in government as Johnson County deputy auditor of elections. Thus, he will know coming in how government works, including ideas for bridging the tensions between municipal and county governments.
Concerning how Botchway is also in Iowa City tradition, he's taken the time to get to know Iowa City and its residents. He is a member of the chamber's 2013 Community Leadership Program cohort and participated in its two-day retreat during his campaign.
He plans to bring Iowa Citians together by keeping us more informed and active in city affairs. Lastly, he is committed to ensuring more diversity in the workings of city government and has already made strides to recruit people for various commissions and committees.
Vote for Botchway. You will be proud that you did.
