When we became involved as parents at Johnson STEAM Academy, one of the first people we met was through the school’s PTA. That person was Jennifer Borcherding, and she was a dedicated volunteer and community member that helped our neighborhood school get the support it needs.
When Jennifer ran for election to the Board of Education for the Cedar Rapids Community School District, we supported her campaign, and have not regretted our decision one bit. And now we would like to endorse her as she seeks re-election.
Jennifer is committed to representing all student voices, and is constantly pushing for a way for all students to succeed, whether through collaborative community partnerships, or increased career/tech education programming. Equity is at the heart of all Jennifer does as a member of the board. She also cares not only about student well-being and success, but also that of educators, whom she has pushed to receive raises and have reduced workload.
She has proved to be an effective leader who cares about what is good for all students in the district. She is a communicator, a listener, and an advocate for our families. As parents of a child with educational accommodations, that is exactly what we need from our educational leaders: communication, listening, and advocacy.
