U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi recently snarled her way through a Senate Oversight Committee hearing, refusing to answer almost all questions asked of her. In so doing she revealed her complete disdain for U.S. senators. She acted as though they had no right to ask her questions. But they do have that right. After all, those senators are elected by us, the people of the United States.
The president is also elected by us. Accordingly, the U.S. Constitution gives both branches of government the implicit right of oversight. We the people are her employers, and we exercise that power through both the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch. Bondi acted as though she had only one “boss,” the President, as if the people are irrelevant.
She is also head of the Department of Justice, an agency which must be apolitical. She has abused her role by turning it into a vengeance toy of the president. She has insulted every elected official on the Senate committee, both Democrats and Republicans. She thereby insulted all of us, the people. She took an oath to support and defend the Constitution, but she just dissed her oath. She should be fired, and she should also be disbarred from further legal practice.
