Boardwalk project coverage unfair
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jul. 13, 2010 12:37 am
The Gazette's coverage of the Effigy Mounds boardwalk project has been unbalanced and unfair. There are claims of potential damage to sacred burial grounds and altering nature but no proof.
In earlier coverage, Superintendent Phyllis Ewing stated she believed proper requests had been submitted and approved. Has there been any investigation of that approval?
The perspective of the size of the project is distorted. The boardwalk is less than one-half mile in a national monument of more than 1,000 acres. It allows people of limited mobility and parents with young children a chance to experience some of the beauty without the strenuous hill climbs.
Your coverage gives the impression that Ewing is uncaring and incompetent; nothing could be further from the truth.
