Blame government instead of seniors

Re: Joyce DeBoy's Aug. 11 letter: She is woefully misinformed. Being one of her “selfish old persons,” I would like to inform her that I was required to pay into Medicare for decades, and only in recent times have I begun receiving the “fruits” of this “investment.”
Yes, my generation prepaid our Medicare benefits. Medicare is not in trouble because those of us who paid for the benefits we now receive, but because of a government unwilling to control spending and woefully inept at managing its programs. What DeBoy is paying, if anything, is for her investment in her future Medicare benefits - not mine.
Don't blame me for the government's inability to manage its affairs, exemplified by Medicare and Social Security approaching bankruptcy.
Direct your screams at the wasteful government, not my generation. And stop looking for handouts - the price is too high to those in mainstream America who are forced to pay for them.
