Big lottery money a magnet for criminals

Upon reading The Associated Press article of Dec. 31, concerning “Mystery trust beats clock for lottery,” heeding my civic responsibility and considering the options, I telephoned The Gazette newsroom, identified myself, and left a recorded message wherein I voiced my opinions. In brief, my opinion at that time was that the ticket turned in may in fact be a duplicate ticket fabricated by someone other than the person who bought the ticket. I suspected fraud and recommended that the newsroom cover the story.
Since there are probably interstate commerce concerns, I recommend that Iowa request FBI help in the ongoing investigation to ensure the integrity of the lottery and compliance with federal and state law.
It is my opinion that applicable technology, information and material are readily available to produce a duplicate lottery ticket evading detection. A significant national interest is at stake in the current scenario. There should be a full inquiry, transparency and recommendations from the lottery investigation. The likes of the New York attorney suggest that there may be infiltration in the lottery business by unscrupulous international connections. Big money is a magnet for criminal enterprises.
