Bicycle riders must obey traffic laws

To the editor:
I always have enjoyed watching RAGBRAI and have had numerous friends and family members complete the ride. However, last Sunday on our way to church we encountered a huge team of bicycle riders apparently practicing for the upcoming ride.
Many of these riders passed through the intersection of Highway 13 and County Home Road like a funeral procession. They showed no respect for the stop signs or flashing red lights in the intersection. After an extended wait for a break in the riders we continued down County Home Road only to have numerous riders riding three and four deep. We spent the next 15 minutes weaving in and out of bicycles that refused to ride single file on this busy highway.
For everyone's safety I would like to remind those riders who feel the laws do not apply to them that they must obey traffic signs and signals. Additionally, those few riders who are disrespectful to motorists, you are giving your fellow riders a bad image.
