Bans don't make guns disappear

Regarding John Macatee's Dec. 18 letter, “Ban on assault weapons needed”:
I am floored how little knowledge there is on gun control from the people who support it. The assault weapons ban that said gun grabbers support was the most worthless piece of legislation ever to come down the pipe.
It banned weapons based on appearance, in no relation to actual function or rate of use in criminal activity. The only effect it had was driving up the price of surplus high capacity magazines. These bans everyone wants don't just make these guns disappear.
