Attend a League of Women voters forum during upcoming legislative session

If you were asked to list the responsibilities of citizenship, most people would list voting as top of their list. But do you know which issues are being discussed and voted into law into after the election?

The 2024 Iowa Legislative session gavels in on Jan. 8. To learn what is happening with the issues you care about, the Linn County League of Women Voters invite you to participate in our non-partisan legislative forums. All Linn County area legislators are invited to participate. Attendees submit the questions they would like the legislators to respond to; questions are gathered and a moderator poses the questions. Our communities are very fortunate that most of our Linn County legislators participate, and they value the transparency the forums provide.

The first LWV 2024 Legislative Forum will be held on Jan. 20 at the Marion Public Library. All forums are held from 10-11:30 a.m. on the third Saturday of the month during the legislative session.

What happens in the Iowa Capitol affects our local governments, K-12 public schools, area education agencies, community colleges, and regent universities. Iowa legislation determines access and funding for basic services. Current issues under consideration include further lowering of personal income tax, the elimination or restructuring of a large number of licensing boards, and the state’s requirement for gender equity on boards, commissions, and committees.

The local forums are an opportunity for your legislator to hear your concerns. We hope you attend and participate.
