Assistance would have been helpful

To the editor:
On Nov. 14, my future son-in-law had lost a load of railroad timbers out of the back of his pick up truck on an off ramp of Interstate 380.
Struggling to get them out of the roadway and back into his truck, not one single caring driver pulled over to help him. No one stopped to at least help direct traffic around the timbers or call the police for assistance. Yes, one could say it was his fault for not properly securing them and you would be correct.
I was born raised in Cedar Rapids and had a 29-year career on the Cedar Rapids Police Department. Over those years, I had arrested lots of criminals, but even more important than that is I had met a lot of great caring people. It is kind of disappointing that not one criminal or caring resident thought to do the right thing.
