Assault weapons not for self protection

Assault weapons were created for use in fighting in wars, not for self protection or sports.
I would like to ask some members of Congress what they would do if they had a child, grandchild other relative or close friend killed or seriously injured in Colorado, Texas or Connecticut? Would they still sing the same tune orchestrated by the NRA?
