Ashley Hinson puts party over people’s lives

Recently, the U.S. Congress passed the American Rescue Plan Act and President Joe Biden signed it into law. This legislation gives Americans much-needed relief in the form of direct stimulus payments, child tax credits, support for small businesses, and more. It provides funding for K-12 education to get children and teachers back into schools safely. It addresses issues like economic hardship, isolation, and food insecurity that affect older Americans hit hardest by the pandemic. Perhaps most urgently, the law provides money for contact tracing, vaccine distribution, and research so after more than 500,000 American lives have been lost, we can finally put this pandemic behind us.
A recent poll showed a whopping 75 percent of all voters, including 60 percent of Republicans, support the law, yet U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson joined all other congressional Republicans in voting against it. Not one Republican voted to help restaurant workers who lost their jobs, families who lost income while caring for loved ones, and parents who struggled to feed and educate their children. Why? Because according to a Hinson tweet, it was a 'liberal spending bill.” It's 'partisan politics.” In her campaign, Hinson promised to work for families, for Iowa values, and for all Iowans regardless of party. She said she would reach across the aisle to do that. She should be reminded that the aisle can be bridged from both sides. And she could've easily made the American Rescue Plan a bipartisan achievement. She could've voted for it.
