Bravo Minnesota Marine Art Museum. In addition to an impressive and diverse collection of American and European art, the museum in Winona, Minn., excels at offering exhibits that inspire and excite. The “Tri-State Invitational: 3 Women From 3 States” is one of the finest yet. Julia Crozier from Minnesota, Jennifer Terpstra from Wisconsin and Nancy Purington from Iowa offer very distinct but complimentary visions of the Mississippi River that borders each state.
I appreciate this diversity as well as the different media used to evoke each artist's rendering of this iconic river. Terpstra employs colorful encaustic painting in her abstract interpretations. Purington uses a variety of media, from paint to collage, in her work that unites the river and moonlight. Crozier, best known for her bright, outlined paintings, depicts flora, river towns and nature in abstract. Each offers her own unique vision that contributes to a vibrant, unified whole.
Each region represented by these strong, visionary artists can be proud of its contributions to this exhibit.
The show will be exhibited through Jan. 12. For more information, go to www.MMAM.org.
