Antifa isn’t the problem facing America

Despite Sinclair Lewis's prophetic warning that it can happen here, those on the precipice of fascism rarely believe it until it's too late.

Also, last week, Michael McCaul (R-TX) introduced H.R. 4187, the Domestic Terrorism Penalties Act of 2019. Civil rights lawyers are responding with alarm. The bill essentially makes dissent terrorism or treason. Civil rights attorney Michael Siegal gave an excellent adumbration of its dangers in his recent column,

Though there have been dozens of white supremacist attacks since 2018, it is Antifa that is being demonized. Antifa hasn't entered a church and gunned down praying people. Antifa hasn't gunned down people at public events. Antifa hasn't murdered anyone. Resistance activist Heather Heyer was murdered by a white supremacist.

Still, President Donald Trump is declaring antifa terrorists, rather than white supremacists. Trump nods as his followers call Democrats socialists and terrorists. Thirty million followers believe this. Some respond violently.

Miep Dies went to work one day not expecting to hide her boss, Otto Frank, but she did. Those with her courage will come from those who affirm they are Antifa.
