Another stretch of Highway 30 needs help

A Dec. 8 Gazette article told of progress on completion of additional sections of four-lane projects on Highway 30 between Ames and the Tama-Toledo area. That is good news for that area. But when will we see any improvement on Highway 30 east of Mount Vernon to Highway 61 at DeWitt?
I am not talking about a four-lane on that section - the existing two lanes need to be fixed.
Starting from the end of the four-lane section just west of Mount Vernon, that road is terrible. It is especially rough east of Clarence. There are several areas where the shoulder is very soft and slippery after a rain.
If an emergency vehicle comes up on you from behind, pulling off on the shoulder can put you in the ditch very easily, especially if you are driving a semitractor pulling a loaded trailer.
It is not going to become a four-lane road for many years, so why can't it be ground down and resurfaced? Highway 30 west from the 218 corner to the new-four lane east of Tama has been resurfaced, and it is such an improvement.
