On Oct. 18, our family was at the Cedar Rapids airport to welcome home the World War II Honor Flight returning from Washington, D.C. On the flight were my father, Robert Davis, and my husband, Dennis Mulford, who escorted Dad.
One of the veterans asked my son and me to be sure that young people know what is happening with the Honor Flights. Though we did not get this veteran's name, we want him and others to know that Anamosa is one place where the youth do know about the sacrifice of veterans and the wonderful experience provided by Eastern Iowa Honor Flights.
On Nov. 11, the Anamosa Student Council put on its 17th annual Veterans Day program. This program is planned and presented by the students of our high school with participation by West Middle School and Strawberry Hill Elementary students.
This year, they chose to honor World War II veterans and especially those who have gone on the Honor Flights. A special video about the flights was shown, Honor Flight veterans were recognized and a group of alumni presented a check to the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight organization.
This program continues to be a wonderful tribute to all our veterans.
