Amnesty for illegal immigrants immoral
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jun. 28, 2010 12:46 am
Comprehensive immigration reform is a buzzword for those who want to grant amnesty to people who have broken the law. Amnesty instantly, in the name of garnering the votes of new enfranchised people, subverts the rule of law. Illegal immigrants are not an integral part of the U.S. economy and their absence will not plunge deeper into recession - rather, the cost of fruits and vegetables may rise and corporate profit margins may contract.
While the problem of illegal immigration is not coupled with the problem of border security, both are fused to the illegitimate idea that aggressive enforcement of immigration law and aggressive enforcement of border security will alienate a sizable block of citizens of Hispanic descent. The only people who are alienated by enforcing the law are people breaking the law.
People here illegally need to be sent home. Giving citizenship as the result of illegal activity is immoral.
