Americans voted for small government and got small hearts

My grandniece, whose 3-year-old daughter loves Elmo on Sesame Street, and people who need clean water wells to keep their families healthy will be thankful to Rep. Ashley Hinson. Despite being previously approved by Republicans and Democrats, Rep. Hinson voted to retract lifesaving assistance from people worldwide and rescind support for public broadcasting in our country on July 18.
We need to un-elect lawmakers who lack courage to fight the mean-spirited actions of the Trump administration that trample on the question “Who’s my neighbor?” (Luke 25-37).
Americans who voted for President Donald Trump may have wanted small government but we didn’t want small-hearted, small-minded, mean-spirited government. That’s what we have now, and will continue to have — unless Rep. Hinson and others like her begin to stand up for democracy and human decency.
