In Froma Harrop's column ('Americans tire of solving world's problems,” May 2), she cites a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll indicating that half of Americans think the United States should be less active in world affairs.
However, a poll commissioned by the Better World Foundation released recently shows there is one global partner Americans approve of.
Support for the United Nations remains high, with 86 percent of the population saying the United States should have an active role at the UN. More than 70 percent think by working through the UN, the United States improves its image in the world.
American voters also want their country to pay for UN peacekeeping operations. Over two-thirds are in favor of these payments. By partnering with the UN, the United States does not have to shoulder the world's problems on its own.
