Amara Andrews is the 'AND' Candidate
Dennis Henderson

This is the first time I’ve publicly weighed in about local politics. As CEO of a local technology company doing business globally, I typically stick to business and stay out of politics.
So why speak up today? Because I think we have an unusual opportunity before us in the mayoral election Cedar Rapids.
I begin with the thesis that economic vitality and progressive social improvement go hand in hand. In fact, we can’t have one without the other because equality, justice, and environmental sustainability unlock and turbocharge economic vitality.
However, in elections we are told that we have to choose between economic prosperity and compassionate social policies.
Like most Americans, I know in my heart that this is a false choice. I know that smart, experienced leaders can deliver sound fiscal governance AND progressive social change. I believe that Amara Andrews is just such a leader.
Amara embodies all of the qualities we need in our city’s leadership: deep experience in business development, AND a strong commitment to equality and justice. She truly understands that business and community are not two competing entities - rather, that they are, together, the interdependent pillars of a healthy city.
On Nov. 2 I will vote for Amara. We have 3 great candidates. In my opinion only Amara represents the ‘AND’ vote where I don’t have to choose between economic vitality and compassionate social progress.
