Those involved with Alliant’s consideration to develop land near The Eastern Iowa Airport need a refresher course in Urban Planning. There are but two principles which govern land use development.
First is the principle of suitability. This dictates whether a site will have appropriate accommodation to serve proposed development. Among others, consideration of topography, access to transportation, availability of utilities, etc.
Second is the principle of compatibility. This dictates whether proposed development will be a good neighbor with surrounding uses. Among others, consideration of noise, odor, lighting, runoff, etc.
Proximity possibly adversely affecting airport operations is a compatibility issue that must be addressed.
