Alliant could save money on green ads

Reading Tom Aller's comment in the Thursday Gazette story (“Alliant rate increase opposed”), it appears he is saying Alliant Energy is investing in renewable energy production because of government pressure, not because Alliant feels a commitment to protecting either the environment or Iowans. If Alliant is only investing in green energy because it is forced to do so, why is Alliant wasting money on commercials telling Iowans how committed it is to “doing the right thing”?
Aller's comments indicate that Alliant would be satisfied to continue to produce energy in non-green ways. He also implies that, if this was possible, there would be no rate increase.
Interesting also is the tactic of blaming elected officials and, by extension, the electorate. It is almost as if he is saying: “If you people vote for unpolluted air, you better get ready to pay for it. We have our profits to protect.”
