Advocate for women’s health in 2022

The last two years presented a number of challenges and loss, so it is with a fierce determination to see things change that I write this resolution for 2022.
Comprehensive women’s health is where my advocacy and energy will be spent in 2022.
The pandemic has been a glaring example of the dependency of our economy on the health of our workforce. So pandemic or not, the health of women in our community should be prioritized, along with a solution to the child care crisis a close second, because the number of women who left the workforce in Iowa since March 2020, citing child care as the reason, should be alarming.
I want to see women thrive: mentally, physically, spiritually and financially.
Women United is a committee through the United Way of East Central Iowa dedicated to improving the lives of women. I joined Women United because access to health care is a privilege I have always had, and I want to ensure others have the same access. I have health insurance; I have reliable transportation; I have a supportive employer who allows me to take time off work.
My goals are to continue to have conversations with elected officials and organizations addressing these needs, to lobby at the Capitol, to challenge outdated employer policies. When women are healthy, and their children are well cared for, we ALL benefit. My resolution is to work with other like-minded individuals to remove barriers for the women in our community.
