Hate has no place in our streets, schools, homes, or businesses. Yet, on April 19, our Marion community was confronted with a chilling reminder when individuals waving Nazi symbolism walked through our town distributing propaganda. This is not an isolated event — it is a warning.
As the Marion Alliance for Racial Equity, we refuse to stand idly by while extremism attempts continue to try to take root. We call on every resident to do more than condemn hate — to actively dismantle it.
Social justice requires more than quiet disapproval. It demands action. Speak out against discrimination. Educate yourself and others. Advocate for policies that protect every neighbor. Foster a community where diversity is celebrated.
Hate thrives in silence, in the false comfort that “this is someone else’s problem.” But history warns us: neutrality is complicity. We must not assume injustice will resolve itself.
Marion is not a place where extremism should find safe harbor. Every resident, business, educator, and leader must take a stand. When hate appears — wherever it is, whoever it targets — push back. Educate. Advocate. This is our shared fight.
The moment is now. Our collective action continues to define our community’s future. Let’s ensure it is one of unity, equity, and justice.
