Act to protect Prairie Park Fishery

Could someone explain why the city of Cedar Rapids has spent million on Prairie Park Fishery, only to have the current city council consider destroying the integrity of the lake?

They want to sell a piece of city-owned property to Cargill, rezoning the currently wildlife protected area for a railroad care repair yard. The water runoff from the development would go directly into the Prairie Park Fishery lake.

Just building a yard with all of the chemically-treated railroad ties would greatly pollute the lake.

An alternative would be to build this yard down river toward the sewage treatment plant, which is an existing industrial area.

Residents of Cedar Rapids have a gem of a piece of property called the Prairie Park Fishery, and we should all be lining up to protect it. Please, go out and visit it and see for yourself. It's a beautiful, unpolluted, quiet, peaceful place to fish, bike, walk and observe nature - a rare place that should be protected for our children and grandchildren. That is what my grandson, Paxton, tells me at least.

We can keep it from being destroyed if we speak up and contact members of the city council.
