Achievements in science inspire awe

In the Jan. 16 Gazette picture page was a galaxy so large that scientists use light years for measurement. This excellent color photograph is unimaginable when miles are involved (billions and billions).

What seems impossible is that scientists can measure such vast distances. When such a discovery is made, we usually want to take great pride in our achievements.

Intergalactic and interstellar space can be observed and researched only by means of the most powerful telescopes. The unknown is challenging, not to mention the infinity of outer space. Curiosity, patience and concentration are the requirements for such feats in astronomy. Much credit goes out to the science world and the accomplishments performed.
