Abortion needs to be kept safe and legal

In response to a Dec. 30 letter, “How can abortion be part of women's care?”:

Ms. Muth's comments, though heartbreaking, fail to recognize the difference between an accidental death, and the oftentimes necessary medical procedure. The personal, private decision a woman makes to terminate a pregnancy is something that is not done lightly. Did Ms. Muth read the countless stories of women whose lives were in jeopardy if they carried a pregnancy to term? What about instances in which the fetus is not viable?

We have to stop painting such broad strokes when it comes to abortion. We must realize that everyone and her circumstances are different. Abortion, legal or not, will continue. We need to keep it safe and legal.
