A warm moment for bell ringers
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 8, 2011 8:25 am
On Nov. 29, we were bell ringing at the Collins Road Hy-Vee. We were struck by the generosity of almost everyone who passed us, especially considering these tough economic times.
We enjoyed seeing the diversity of donors, and it was heartwarming to witness parents encouraging their children to drop in a coin. Our two-hour shift was a very small effort, yet many people stopped to thank us.
After an hour and a half, we were starting to notice the typical chilly November temperatures. How delighted we were when a young man and his daughter presented us each with a steaming cup of cocoa. His T-shirt reflected what we were both thinking - “Super Hero” - and indeed he was.
What a wonderful spirit of generosity he is instilling in his young daughter. We don't know your names, but thank you for your random act of kindness.
